Format For the day

Goals-This seminar will be geared for alpaca owners and breeders interested in gaining knowledge regarding the reproduction, birth, and care of the newborn. The intention is not to train technical experts, but to learn and understand basic care. A successful attendee should be able to know how to perform the day-to-day procedures, and recognize when outside help is needed.

Attire-Aprons and protective gloves will be provided. Casual/work clothes should be worn for those participating in hands-on exercises.

Location-Detailed directions to the farm can be found on our website. A wide selection of motels can be found 15-20 miles north or south of Alpha. The farm is only a few miles off I-74, south of Moline, IL

General-A simulator filled with water containing a plastic uterus and a pelvis the approximate size of an alpaca’s will be available to learn birthing. Limited registration will allow all a chance to experience normal and abnormal birth situations.

Food-Coffee and rolls will be provided in the morning, and lunch will be provided at noon.

Schedule-We will adhere to the schedule until 4PM and will remain as long as anyone wants to stay for individual questions or use of the simulator.
